New mortgage market rules take effect

The U. K.'s new mortgage market rules that aims to prevent a repeat of the 2008 real estate crisis have finally taken effect.


NAMA Units Yet to be Handed Over to Local Authorities

Out of 5,000 estimated units that were deemed suitable for social housing by NAMA only 518 have been handed over till now to the local authorities. It is reported that around 90, 000 applicants have been listed by the council.

In its latest report, the Centre for Economics & Business Research (CEBR) said that improvements in consumers' disposable income, business investment and housing market would provide a notable boost to the Britain's economic recovery this year.


Vacant Houses to be Renovated for Waiting-list Families

There are some 900 or more vacant council homes that have not been put to use for years will now be renovated for families waiting on the housing list. The scheme has been allotted 15 million for the renovation.

Jan O'Sullivan the Minister of State for housing in an announcement yesterday said, about 952 long-term vacant properties, will be turned back into usable condition this year.


Large increase in new-build housing looks extremely challenging: Taylor Wimpey

It would be extremely hard to meet government's target of building more than 200,000 homes per year without further fundamental reform of planning system, Taylor Wimpey chief executive Pete Redfern said.
